Breeding for Performance

Burrowa Welsh Cobs is situated near the town of Walwa in the NE of Victoria close to the border of  NSW on the Murray River.  It is a ¾ hr drive from Holbrook on the Hume freeway and an alternative 1 ½ hours scenic drive from Albury or Wodonga via the  Hume Dam.

We have been breeding Welsh Cobs at “Tipperary” for 25 yrs and were lucky enough to have the imported Section D stallion “Gwibedog Sportsman (imp) (pictured here) from 1990 until his death in 1998. He and the Sec D mare Trefaes Cymraes (imp) were a great foundation for our stud thanks to Viv Myers, founder of the Annan stud, who imported, owned and lent them  both to us.

Now we have his son Burrowa Sportsman’s Last (Sportie) who has competed with great success under saddle. He is also a stallion of the most delightful temperament and manners. In 2016 he returned from a 5 year lease with Wendy Higgins who improved his education and gave him the best of care.

In 2009 we imported the outstanding section D stallion Abergavenny Achilles (imp) from Wales to use with our Section D and C mares.  In 2016 Achilles and some of his mares were sold to Jayde and Daniel Whitehead of Jindera NSW and we wish them a successful future.

 The aim of the stud is to produce quality cobs with good temperaments that perform under saddle or in harness.

 Nearly all stock is for sale as we are planning to disperse the stud in the forseeable future.

Limited number of Welsh mares of all Sections available.
